I use the same Hp 5L PCL driver for Windows 2000, with XP, and it works fine at even 600 dpi with complex web pages and pdf files. (make sure it's the PCL driver and not the regular 5L driver that comes with Windows - go to "Printing Preferences" then "Basic" tab then "About" to verify the version)

Run the executable file and extract the files to a known folder. Update the driver by using "Have Disk" and point it to the "HP5L.INF" file in the new folder.
